Who We Are

Calgary East is affiliated with the denomination known as the Church of the Nazarene. The Nazarenes are a Protestant Christian group which began in 1908. From the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, it was founded to spread the message of scriptural holiness (Christlike living). The Nazarene church is truly worldwide. Today the Church of the Nazarene is located in 156 world areas.

What We Believe

These are the beliefs Nazarenes hold to be true:

  • We believe in one God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit

  • We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to fatih and Christian living.

  • We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.

  • We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.

  • We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.

  • We believe the believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised and the final judgement will take place.

All people are invited and welcome to participate in the life of Calgary East. Some people are surprised to learn that the Nazarene church has a formal membership. Membership is for persons who have declared their experience of salvation, and belief in the doctrines of the Church of the Nazarene, and desire to unite with over two million other Nazarenes worldwide.

Baptism is the physical acknowledgement of the inward decision to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life. It is also a symbolic act, a public acknowledgement of the change that has happened in your life since you accepted Jesus Christ. Baptism is an act of obedience. As we are now followers of Jesus Christ, we follow His life as an example.

Are you a Christian? Have you put your trust in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation? We want to help you walk in obedience to Christ. If you would like to be baptized, please contact our church office.
